Recommend a new router for Gargoyle?

I posted on here a few months ago about my experiences with Gargoyle on my Archer C7 router. I got a lot of help from knowledgeable people here and It generally worked great with 100/10 speed and Gargoyle 1.10. I couldn't use QoS without severely limiting the speed and ended up being told that that was the fault of the router's hardware, specifically it's relatively slow cpu.

Now I've upgraded to 400/20 internet speed and while I had to go back to stock firmware and hardware NAT to get that, I'm wondering if anyone has recommendations for a better router that can do those speeds and also utilize QoS with Gargoyle? Or is that just wishful thinking without hardware NAT?

haha. That's cool and thanks for posting that. A DIY router is a bit farther than I'm willing to dabble in this stuff. :)

I think Linksys WRT1900 should give you speed close to your limits with QoS turning On (not sure about BW monitoring). With WRT3200 & WRT32X you should be on a safe side.

Is Gargoyle available for those modems you listed? I don't see any firmware for the WRT3200 or WRT32x. Unless i'm looking in the wrong place? The WRT3200 appears to be a good router but gets trashed in some of the dd-wrt forums.

a DIY x86-64 router is a lot easier then it looks.

after messing around with WRT1900's and WRT3200 - I took the "scared" plunge to an old PC and I am in disbelief at the stability and speed that x86 running Gargoyle provides. I will never waste mony on a consumer router again.

The usual problem with x86 routers is the power usage

A normal PC can use 200 - 500+ watts

The x86 router listed above any uses 6 watts

I suspect we will get to a point where we will select x86 hardware based on throughput requirements.

Nobody knows what the results are yet?

Yes, as not released (but pretty stable so many people using it) version 1.11x:
