The two linksys routers look interesting.
Would they give me 400+ mbps download speeds even with QoS enabled?

How about the Archer C9?

It was reported in the forum that speed 500Mbps was reached with WRT1900. Unfortunately, I do not know details.
It is pretty likely that this device would do the trick on your very asymmetric connection. May be you will need to switch off realtime bandwidth monitoring.

Look at the information about less powerful WRT1200AC:
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=11752
Current (1Gb/40 Mb)
570/40 - QoS disable
350/38 - QoS enabled (for download & upload)
I'm using WRT1200AC, but cannot confirm these numbers as my connection is much slower (50/20 atm).

1. It is less powerful (2 x 1000MHz cores vs 2 x 1600MHz cores on WTR1900AC v2)
2. It is not supported by Gargoyle

Gargoyle Version: 1.10.0 QoS disable Linksys wrt1900acs V2,PPPoE network connection 1Gbps

Currently i use SuperWrt that is much more stable and much faster on the wi-fi side, it is also very light for this router, but a plus because he knows the IPV6 dual stack.
I am looking forward to the gargoyle to be more mature and to know ipv6! :D

Thank you very much to everybody who responded. The Wrt 1900ac sounds like it might be a winner.

Oliver44, have you tried using Gargoyle's QoS? I'm wondering if you can keep your speed with it turned on? Since your 1GB speed is way faster than my 400mbps, even if the 1900ac lost half, it would be plenty good enough for me.

What set me on this quest originally was trying to keep my ISPs speed and get the bufferbloat of the router down. I can get full ISP speed with my C7 and stock firmware because of hardware NAT but bufferbloat is mostly Ds. I learned from other people here that my best option was to upgrade to a router with a better cpu.

If I upgrade to a more powerful router, I was hoping to keep the speed and lower the bufferbloat.

@gelliss I did not try to use Gargoyle's with QoS active.

@oliver44 Could you advise, was BW monitor switched ON or OFF during your test?

@gelliss You do not really have any other choice. These modems are the most powerful that supported. Need more power? x86-64 then...
One note -- oliver's modem 1900ACS, not 1900AC as you mentioned. They are slightly different.

good catch @fifonik.

Main difference between Linksys WRT1900AC and Linksys WRT1900ACS. ... While WRT1900ACS has a dual core processor of 1.6 GHz and a RAM of 512 Mbps, the processor in WRT1900AC is 1.2 GHz and a RAM of 256Mbps.

That's a pretty big difference.

I do not know how it is set standard BW monitor .

@oliver44

Unless something's changed since, turning off Bandwidth monitoring graphs is a command line command. You'd have to log in to the router with something like putty to do that.
viewtopic.php?t=10939

Thanks for your testing it briefly. It sounds like if you can get your full gig speed with Gargoyle and the 1900acs, it should be able to handle my speeds just fine even with QoS.
