Any progress about wireguard as plugin in Gargoyle?

There is an interesting guide about using it with openwrt

Wireguard was added as a plugin to 1.13.x. several users have tested it working well.

Found it by google, different way to find?
https://lantisproject.com/gargoyle_custom/1.13.x/mvebu/

But i think i will wait for an update.
Is there a method for easy migrating without always installing packages i need?

I normally install htop, iperf, webcam utils for turning light off the cam, beardropper and sub2rbl.
Also i have to import my old dhcp tables too.

Is there an easy way to upgrade or only not to preserve settings and config it hand by hand? :(
dhcp table i can copy but rest i have to install again and configure by hand, correct?

Wireguard/OVPN plugin

Post by whataboutnow »

Hello :) hope you are all well 👍

Just thought I'd chime in; last few days I've been setting up Pi-Hole just in a VM before I get an actual Pi. There is a version of open vpn called pivpn - the installer lets you configure either ovpn or wireshark. I know wireshark has been added to gargoyle firmware now and got to thinking...

Is it the same version that's installed in gargoyle? If not would it be possible for me to uninstall the one that shipped with gargoyle and replace it with pivpn?

The reason I ask is that the ovpn settings in pivpn have got password verification on connection which I'd quite like to have via my routers vpn connection.

Don't need a gui, it's a very simple implementation which is easy to manage in a terminal.

Thoughts/ideas welcome :)

Just to be clear. Wireguard, not Wireshark.

The two versions are likely similar enough to not matter.
I didn't add password options to the GUI, but if you're happy to manage it via the command line you can manually set the preshared_key.
Note that this isn't really "on connection", you set the key up as an additional parameter when setting up the client. It adds additional overhead that isn't really necessary for most users.

If pivpn is doing some post connection password check, it isn't a standard implementation, and you could not install it on Gargoyle

Thanks for this, I did try but it didn't work for me.
I'm happy as is to continue using the existing version though so no big deal

Thanks again :)
