I have the same problem with my wr1043nd v1.8.Gargoyle 1.9.X (Built 20160714-0844 git@9b75d12)
After applying those command lines and reboot...
Are the changes kept?

Just ran into this issue on 8 routers (two TL-WR841ND v7, four TL-WR941ND v3, and two TL-WR1043ND v1) that I had installed Gargoyle 1.10 on last week. I downgraded all of them to 1.6.2 and now they're all running fine.
