Idiots guide to cli wanted !

So, as you guessed... I'm pretty new to all this, over the past week I've flashed my tplink 3600 to gargoyle, and eventually got my raspberry pi ad blocker working with it.
I've used winscp to alter the configuration files, but I'm sure this is a clumsy way of doing things? I presume I'm the only one here new to Linux too !
How do you guys alter things, and issue commands ?
I use a Windows pc, but more and more my Android phone.

It's a bit more basic than that... I was asking how do you actually do it !
after a bit of bravado... I hooked up to my router via "juice ssh" and just typed stuff in !
.. sometimes people who 'can' overestimate the knowledge of those who 'cant' ! lol
