BEST/FASTEST router that I can flash Gargoyle onto?

Post by drewsk828 »

I admit, my venerable Netgear WNDR3800 has been great with Gargoyle, but now that I have been using wifi-as-wan, it is showing its age.

I need something with a little more wireless bandwidth, like N600/AC2000 capability or better, I have a 100Mbit wireless WAN connection but I'm missing out on a good bit of my bandwidth because the wndr3800 maxes out at 300mbit theoretical on 2.4 and 5ghz, which usually nets me around 60% of my actual internet connection speed (I use the 5Ghz band for WAN connection). Any suggestions on a good Gargoyle-compatible router for this application?

thank you for the info. I know this question was asked awhile ago but I still am using my WNDR3800 as main gateway with a WNR2500 as an accesspoint on the other side of the house. Works pretty good, get about 30-40mbps on 2.4ghz band. I try to keep the 5ghz band as clear as possible for the wifi-as-wan conection. Using wifi-as-wan and then rouer wired to my PC, however, I get 90-120Mbps

So I feel like the 2.4 band could be a bit better. I have 40mhz channels enabled on both 2.4 and 5ghz.

U think this about the max capability of 2.4ghz and I'd stick with what I have or is there something more advanced/faster that supports gargoyle+wifi-as-wan and might get me closer to my ISP speed over LAN wifi?
