Is that driver required or just preferred?
If it's required it needs to be included in the build otherwise the version will be incorrect.

I'm not sure what you mean. The asus rt-n16 performs miserably without the wl driver (NAT speed brcmsmac 10 Mbps, wl 40-50Mbps), so yeah - it is required.

After doing some research, I am not comfortable making this the default driver. It is not supported well enough, and requires custom tools to configure it properly.
I don't think it will behave correctly under gargoyle.

However I can add it as an optional package, which would allow you to download it from the gargoyle repository.
Are you satisfied with this solution?

For now, I would have to host the files on my own server.

1) recovery mode launch
- turn off the router
- change pc ip on 192.168.1.2
- turn on the router and check SYS led: as soon as it blinks first time - press and hold RESET
- SYS should blink frequently, if so - release reset

yeah,... as mentioned before: cannot do that when the darn sys-led is not lighting up

@lantis: yup, tried to preserve settings, dunno about the second brick.. but he has a 1043nd as well.
Mine is v1.

With no sys-led:

hold the sys button down on boot for 7 seconds.
After letting go of the button it will take 5 seconds to get into firstboot. If 7 seconds dont work then try 10 seconds. Just keep trying you can try tapping the button for 5- 10 seconds on boot to. It can be dun mate i have dun it and i am blind (ninja) lol It's a real pane in the arse.

Since "Preserve settings" options could be faulty in more than 50% of firmware udates, wouldn't be better to remove that option, and just put there a recommendation to take printscreens or save al the settings in a notepad?

I never used this option, even if I had installed Gargoyle since version 1.6.2, that's because I want to be sure that there won't be any incompatibilities.

For me it takes 10 minutes to manually add all my settings, doing that only once a year isn't such a big deal, it's not like we have daily updates.

Feature request

I had also request it in the past, but now are more people seeking for this option.
Could you please integrate in Wireless Client Mode 802.11x WPA2-Enterprise option, so that we could use Gargoyle as a repeater for the UPC Wi-Free networks?

There are many peoples that are seeking to use this router in this way:
http://eko.one.pl/forum/viewtopic.php?id=8819
http://forum.mediaswiat.pl/viewtopic.php?p=141848
http://tplink-forum.pl/pogotowie-konfig ... rzewodowo/

http://www.mygarage.ro/retelistica/2326 ... ost2681948
https://www.gargoyle-router.com/phpbb/v ... =13&t=7753

Unfortunately now I'm stuck on Gargoyle firmware, but it's not necessarily the best option, and that is because on multiple network that have the same name sometimes it connects on the one with the lowest signal strength, there is no option to filter them by MAC.

Thank you in advance!

Yes, availability in the repositories would be perfectly fine. This is in fact the way it works on openwrt and I didn't expect anything more.
I would rather not be forced to use this driver either, but this seems to be the only option for somewhat usable system.
You mentioned you would have the files on your own server, would you post a link to that?

Lantis,

I also did a sysupgrade and a Linksys WRT160NL from 1.9.0 to 1.9.1, using 'preserve settings'.
The update was succeeded, but afterwards the router went into a 'boot loop'.
I solved it by using the standard Openwrt 'recovery button', telnet into the router and issuing a 'firstboot'.

It seems there is something not 100% right, going from 1.9.0 to 1.9.1.
The WRT160NL with version 1.9.0 was configured in 'client bridge' mode.

Adri.

Anyone using a bridge config shouldn't preserve settings. Because we updated the way bridges are handled.
