Example:
Ad exemption check
startip: 192.168.1.20
endip: 192.168.1.20

On machine 192.168.1.20 all ads DNS queries should now be able to resolve, but some still do not. Example of one below.

http://go.redirectingat.com/?id=355X561&test=off&xcust=f8dbbba8175948659a2fb79c904ce445&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.jackinthebox.com%2Fcoupons%2Fbogo-buttery-jack

Server: Gargoyle.lan
Address: 192.168.1.254

Name: go.redirectingat.com
Address: 0.0.0.0

*When ADBLOCK DISABLED* BELOW
> go.redirectingat.com
Server: Gargoyle.lan
Address: 192.168.1.254

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: go.redirectingat.com
Address: 54.215.184.72

I would need to turn off adblock plugin entirely by disabling it for it to resolve.

More details please.
Steps to reproduce problem.

Hi,

Installed 1.8.0 on WDR-3600. Very happy with performance, not using wireless so can't comment on this.

One difference from an identical config on 1.6.2 is when trying to gain remote web access results in:

"Forbidden

Rejected request from RFC1918 IP to public server address"

Found this access really useful so if anyone can translate what the above means and if it is indeed an issue with 1.8.0, I'd be grateful.

I do not use this feature, but it did not work when I tested it with:
Gargoyle - System - Router Access - Web Access - Remote Web Admin Access: HTTPS

Thanks for that nworbnjoj. The only reason I'm listing it on this thread is that it was working prior to upgrade to 1.8. However, I do understand that its probably an issue that was imported from the OpenWrt base.

EDIT: However, I am just after realising that does work when accessed from an outside IP (which is what its purpose is). The remote access used to accessible from LAN on previous versions and this is what threw me off. Either way, perfectly functional if not better now.

Keep up the good work all. I really appreciate this firmware!

For TP-Link wr1043nd it is unstable and disconnect devices from time to time.

Often WiFi connection disappears.

I can't connect in places, where I was able to use WiFi before, so I thing signal is weaker in 1.8.0

So Would not recommend anyone with TP-Link wr1043nd

I can not agree. I have an old TP-Link WR1043ND ver 1.8, and the router works fine with the firmware 1.8.0. I wrote about it here.

/etc/init.d/network restart resolves the issue temporarily
I am still experiencing this behaviour and suspect that the following log entries are related:

Code: Select all

Mon Sep 7 07:37:59 2015 daemon.info hostapd: wlan0: STA :MAC:HIDDEN: IEEE 802.11: authenticated
Mon Sep 7 07:37:59 2015 daemon.info hostapd: wlan0: STA :MAC:HIDDEN: IEEE 802.11: associated (aid 1)
Mon Sep 7 07:38:09 2015 daemon.info hostapd: wlan0: STA :MAC:HIDDEN: IEEE 802.11: deauthenticated due to local deauth request
There is some OpenWRT discussion on this type of error but the issue was old and resolved

Hi Tapper; can I ask how you are getting on with your WD My Net N750 in general and with the very latest Gargoyle version, I've got one of those sitting new in the box and I was wondering if it was worth flashing OpenWRT or Gargoyle on to it.

I noticed that the stock WD firmware doesn't support custom DDNS providers, which would be my main reason for flashing this device.

That a side, what are the benefits of using OpenWRT or Gargoyle on this device over the stock firmware (other than the custom DDNS). Does Gargoyle provide any extra levels of security, firewalls or performance gains over the stock firmware?

Can you still operate simultaneous dual-band WIFI 2.4 / 5Ghz in the private and guest WiFi set up modes ?

Is there any way to back up your stock firmware, should I ever want to revert back to it. Is their any limitations on the number of times that I can change firmware on this device between Gargoyle, OpenWRT and the stock firmware?

Is it possible to run a VPN server on this router using Gargoyle or OpenWRT?

Does OpenWRT or gargoyle have any GUI colour variations other than those presented on this website under the screenshots section?

Thanks
