Loathe to retest this one, I turned off my router and it lost the settings so I had to put them all back in. Is this a 1.7.1 issue or my router?

Sorry to hear you lost your setup.

If you did a backup, the restore does work.

Or I found you can restore the time consuming bits by unzipping the backup and restoring these three files

/etc/hosts
/etc/ethers
/etc/config/qos_gargoyle

Hope this helps

tbh this build is not good :(

So I backed up my config.

Had a power cut so restored the configuration, that then had no difference at all - router was still in same state of no connection details etc.

I then went to put the details in manually and found that after the connection page I had no access to any other page - kept going to the login.

I'm going to have a look at the later build or may just rever to an older build :(

Done some more testing. The restart and loose settings appears to be my router at issue rather than the build. Tested against 1,62 and that also had the same issue so have to assume my router is at fault. Will do some searching to find what could be the cause of it loosing its settings :(

Hi one thing you could try is flash back to latest OEM firmware and then flash back to 1.7.1 It's just a punt in the dark tho good luck!
I'm thinking this maybe the solution as the issue seems to be it not remembering the settings which is strange.

Do you mean just last a gargoyle factory image or put the original netgear firmware on and then put gargoyle

Any other ideas why it wouldn't hold settings or like restoring settings

Further to my previous posts I have done some extensive testing today and believe Gargoyle has an issue with firmwares 1.62 and 1.71/x

If you go to these firmwares without previously preserving the settings, put the settings in then save the settings when the router is powered off it does not retain the settings. This does not effect 1.60/1.61 or 1.70 - so you have to go to the appropriate firmware first - put the settings in and then use preserve settings when updating the firmware.

I am not sure if it is just my model Netgear 3700 v2 or my connection ppoe wired

I have created a thread

If more detailed discussion is required

ispyisail wrote:try without
Now with Preserve Settings

Thanks for the suggestion. I have tried everything I can to force the router to update the firmware. I have restored to factory defaults and tried restoring to a new version and previous version, without Preserve settings ticked. All I ever get is the Uploading settings dialogue box with the spinning dots, and this is where it stays. Nothing uploads and nothing changes. Apart from this Gargoyle seems to working OK.

I can Telnet and SSH into the Router. There must be a way to change something or download/upload something which will solve this or help the Guru's here to pinpoint the problem, hopefully leading to a solution. Right now I have a WNDR3700v1 which I can not update and will become more useless as firmware advances. Can anyone please help with some suggestions using Telnet or SSH.

Thank you
