Any confirmation/fix on this?

My 1043ND updated no problem. This is my main router. Wireless access is MAC Address limited to only the other two routers in my house.

My 841ND v7 configured as a non-repeating bridge updated no problem.

My 841ND v5 configured as a repeating bridge would not update. It worked as a bridge, but I could not get it to be a repeater. My solution was to roll that one back to 1.5.8 (I never did the .9 update, so I went back to what I knew worked). It works fine as a repeating bridge with 1.5.8.

I do not know if the v7 would have worked as a repeater, I did not try.

I have a question. I have an TP-Link WDR4300 with the latest firmware 1.5.10 installed and would like to install gpkgs. I have a 200gb hd drive that I could use, and would like to install an nzb client. Is there any way I can configure this? Thanks.

nzbget has a dependency of libxml2 which @ almost 500k all by itself, you might have to resort to extroot (google it).

To enable web based interaction, nzbgetweb has more dependencies: php5 & uhttpd. uhttpd is a webserver. Gargoyle uses a different webserver (its own httpd-gargoyle). You would definitely have to use extroot - I've never done it myself.

In short, it might be possible, but not without some work. nzbget 9.0 includes its own server, but the openwrt package hasn't been updated.

Ping_Watchdog.sht on 1.5.10

Post by Cachorro »

My Gargoyle TP-Link 1043ND router is running very nicely, but for one issue: At least once a week the WAN connection dies, and I need to reboot it to get it going again (via Web interfase).
This is no more than a small bother, but non the less annoying. Specially if I am not home and wife/kids are having problems.

Found the Ping_Watchdog sh script could be the right solution for me. Could it?

http://www.gargoyle-router.com/gargoyle ... atchdog.sh

How do I get it installed, and configured? Anyone been using it? Or other solutions?

Thanks.

A. That script is part of a plugin
B. All plugins have a web interface
C. That plugin came out after 1.5.10, so when you try to add a plugin via the plugins page, only those available at the time of 1.5.10 are made available.

If you had shell skillz you could localize the firmware & scp the files into place. You can compile your own firmware too.

Of course, when the next Gargoyle version comes out, the plugin should be available at that point for download without all the hassle.

Thanks BashfulBladder. Even though I am no where closer to get this script going, I now know why. :)

Yes, I am not a skilled scripter. Or programmer for that matter. I only 'play' my way around as a hobby, but would definitely like to learn more.

Would you be able to recommend some very basic 'beginners/starter' reading I could get onto; to maybe someday be able to get this script added and files into place. Maybe even compile and create my own some day as you say. :)

Thanks in advance.

As I haven't been a beginner in many moons, I really have no idea what & where a good primer would be.

The upshot is compiling isn't that hard. I did it in a virtual machine with ubuntu last night to track down a bug. See these instructionsL

http://www.gargoyle-router.com/wiki/dok ... umentation

and add 'sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop' and you'll get a full blown GUI environment. Once you build the firmware, the OpenWrt build scripts neatly bundle each package up so you can just transfer it to your router to install. Very enticing for a rainy day... just sayin'.

Thanks BashfulBladder. Appreciate your free guidance. I might start looking at it all on sunny days, and full moon nights too.

All

Just wondering, , I've noticed ispisail has been creating "ad hoc" bleading edge builds (see http://www.gargoyle-router.com/phpbb/vi ... =14&t=4780 ) and I was wondering if there is a single "thread" for these builds.. perhaps a subforum?

edit : Just found them here.. http://www.gargoyle-router.com/phpbb/viewforum.php?f=14 in the Show-Tell-Contribute !
Awesome!
