For New C7 Routers

Confirmed working on the new Archer C7 v2 model with the updated flash chip - chugging along very nicely.

I did install it on TP-Link 1043 ND, and I got a brick. The only light is the power light. I did try to reset it but no luck. Any other idea besides the serial connection?

Thank you,

@Mike_Krüger
Do you have the new model with the "FCC locked firmware" ?

If so did you had any issues installing gargoyle on it?

Thanks.

(I want to buy a new router and I want to be sure that I can install Gargoyle)

Well, I am in Europe, the FCC has nowt to say here. The main difficulty here was that TP-Link for whatever reason changed a part and it was not picked up by the kernel.

If you follow this link, you'll find information on how to install OpenWRT in such a situation. You can install Gargoyle in the same manner.

Remember to take either OpenWRT from Trunk or the latest Gargoyle, as all the Yank FCC-locked devices seem to have the new flashchip, too.

This C7 is turning out to be quite the tinkerer's machine :)

Regarding "FFC locking". It seems that it's currently quite a simple lock where they just put a country code into the header of the firmware. No country code = no flash.
Currently the US is the only place to do such a thing so for now openwrt has started to put (as of 3 days ago) "US" in the front of their c7 headers.

I'll look into back porting this to gargoyle, however the tool that generates the firmware has also changed quite a bit so that needs back porting too.
