If you're using Ubuntu you can just use terminal and "ssh root@192.168.1.1".

Should just be CTRL+C to copy under Ubuntu.

Sounds like you're doing yo have to failsafe reset now anyway.

Lantis: How to proceed with the failsafe reset?
Also, how to fully reset an gargoyle router?

Thanks!

thanks

I did "ssh root@192.168.1.1" in terminal and then command "firstboot"
This worked and the router was able to save settings again.

I found when the router was not saving any settings that the date was that of the build date. any changes would work until the router was power cycled. then the router would go go back to firstboot screen.

There was one difference with the first boot screen. Just informing you.
1) when the router was playing up, after the password was changed there were language options to install.

2) I did a ssh firstboot command

3) After the new password was entered there was no options to select languages.( not a problem for me)

I will try and find when the wifi locks up and report it when i can replicate it.

All good as long as you got it running again.

Languages are downloaded from the Internet. If you haven't set up your connection yet then you won't see any languages.
I believe it is expected behaviour in most connection styles on a fresh first boot.
I think if you just plain old connect via Ethernet you may have the option always.

I have been away for 4 days with the router powered off for this time.

A iphone 5s was unable to connect.

I found that the connection basic screen was incorrect.
Screen shot 1 shows the details.

the connection is ment to be wired DHCP and 2.4ghz wirelss WPA2

I changed the details for the wireless
Screen shot 2 before save changes
Screen shot 3 after changes but another error with Connection type.
Screen shot 4 after changing changes but before save

When I save now I get a "please wait for new setting to be applied"
Does not go away.

How do I attach screen shots?

Those screenshots were all indicative of a browser issue not a router issue in my opinion.
The only other way it could have happened is if it failed to generate the cached variables file, which would be bizarre because it generates every time the page loads (if it doesn't exist already).
It is purged on shutdown.
