Re: Email notifications plugin revisited

Post by Fredkup »

This is a reprint from the installation forum which has now been resolved with help from Lantis who suggested I post here.

I could only get the TLS setup to gmail to send one test email and then it stopped working giving errors so I switched gears:

I switched to non-authenticated email which my ISP allows from its own IP addresses. Test emails always successful(entry in logread follows)
Fri Oct 9 07:50:45 2015 user.info msmtp: host=smtp.teksavvy.com tls=off auth=off from=fredkup@teksavvy.com recipients=fredkup@teksavvy.com mailsize=188 smtpstatus=250 smtpmsg='250 ok: Message 168959339 accepted' exitcode=EX_OK

Email content set to 'log' and 'bandwidth', Display int: quarter hours, timer period 'daily', Increment '15 min', Selected timer mode: daily schedule (every day is the same) every 2 hours on the hour.

Unfortunately no emails were sent and no events or errors logged in Logread for those time periods.

I have gargoyle_1.8.0-ar71xx-generic-tl-wr1043nd-v1-squashfs-factory.bin installed on a TL-WR1043ND V1 router. I have uninstalled and re-installed the Email notifications for Gargoyle (with SSL support) plugin with no change. I'm willing to troubleshoot if someone has the time to to provide some guidance.
Thanks, Manfred

Did you install fixed version of plugin?

Edit: Just saw your thread in installation section of forum. You are running an development version of plugin. You can find fixed version on previous page.

Thanks for the reply, found plugin-gargoyle-email-notifications_1.0-1_all.ipk 21-Jun-2015 14:09 13179, but was unable to find any instructions on how to install on router. Tried adding URL to Plugin source but it will not let me use the name of the file with error 'invalid characters in file name'. I have WinSCP but could not find a procedure in the forums to install manually. Please point me in the right direction
Thanks, Fredkup

Use WinSCP to copy .ipk file to /tmp and then run "opkg install file" (etc. opkg install /tmp/email.ipk).

Thank you Dpint, I was able to install the plugin but unfortunately it does not work. I cannot save the screen nor is there any response from the "Test email button". I had a similar problem with my previous 4MB flash router so maybe this one with 8MB is still not enough flash ROM to handle any add-ons. I will reload gargoyle next week and try again to see if I get a different result. I will post here.

Reloaded router but install did not work. I have listed the steps taken below. Any ideas as to the problem?
Manfred

1.copy file to /tmp

2.open terminal in WinSCP and enter opkg install /tmp/plugin-gargoyle-email-notifications_1.0-1_all.ipk and execute

3.Failed with return code 1 and error message ERROR: No package named /tmp/plugin-gargoyle-email-notifications_1.0-1_all.ipk found, try updating your package list

4.log into router and refresh plugins
Original email plugin shows
Email notifications for Gargoyle (with SSL support)
Version: 1.0-1
Status: Not Installed
Required Disk Space: 202.409 kBytes

5. return to console and execute
Console shows
/tmp$ opkg install /tmp/plugin-gargoyle-email-notifications_1.0-1_all.ipk
Preparing to install the following packages, which will require 226286 bytes:
msmtp, ca-certificates, plugin-gargoyle-email-notifications

Downloaded ca-certificates successfully.
Installing ca-certificates...
Successfully installed ca-certificates.
Preparing to install package plugin-gargoyle-email-notifications...

6. Close console, terminate WinSCP and log on router following plugin shown
Email notifications for Gargoyle with TLS support
Version: 1.0-1
Status: Pre-Installed

7. No email in System menu but able to go to http://192.168.1.1/email.sh

8. No response to "Send test email" or "save changes" button and no entries in logread so email.sh unresponsive.

9. Memory Usage:16.3MB / 28.2MB (57.9%)

Re-installed gargoyle software and reloaded settings from backup. Installed non ssl "new " email from Dpint's download page. With my limited knowledge of routers I have nothing else to try. Has anyone had success installing this plugin and if so, could you please tell me how was it done?

/tmp$ opkg install /tmp/plugin-gargoyle-email-notifications-nossl_1.0-1_all.ipk
Preparing to install the following packages, which will require 44563 bytes:
msmtp-nossl, plugin-gargoyle-email-notifications-nossl

Preparing to install package msmtp-nossl...
Downloading...
Downloaded msmtp-nossl successfully.
Installing msmtp-nossl...
Successfully installed msmtp-nossl.
Preparing to install package plugin-gargoyle-email-notifications-nossl...
cfg061aed
Successfully installed plugin-gargoyle-email-notifications-nossl.
Installation of packages successful.

Found following on plugins
Email notifications for Gargoyle
Version: 1.0-1
Status: Pre-Installed

No email in Settings menu. went to 192.168.1.1/email.sh

RESULT: no response to "Send test email" or "Save Changes" button on email.sh page.

It looks like all of the necessary pieces are in order.

Have you tried this from different browsers or devices?
