And serious money, at nearly $200 (street price).

Considering the drive-by WPA2 vulnerability that became known this month (never use anything but an industrial-strength PW again), it's a horrible time to be thinking of a new router. WPA3 it is--next year.

Qos settings need tuning to get a good result.

Can I jump back and forth to OpenWRT/LEDE and Gargoyle with sysupgrade?
Well, Bufferbloat testing was a huge let down. My gaming experience was OK, but very far from being perfect. I can easily get a triple A+ with OpenWrt 18.06, something almost impossible with 1.11x
Maybe I'm doing something wrong though.

Bandwidth has nothing to do with competitive gaming.
You don't need bandwidth to deal with mere UDP packages.

And then you would need to wait another few years until all your clients updated :)

My understanding is that WPA3 will be software compatible with existing routers via a hostapd update i.e. it is not hardware dependent.

May not be the problem in your case but as a general rule its a common problem.

Everybody wants quick and cheap

If you really want to get down and dirty with SQM or QOS have a look at these very cool scripts!

Installed this build on my new WRT1200AC, configured it from scratch and found that something not good with quotas.

I have per month quotas specified for 3 IP addresses (192.168.1.4, 192.168.1.2, 192.168.1.5 in that order).
However, on quotas status page I only see information for 192.168.1.4.
If I disable quota for that IP, I can see quotas for other IPs.
Playing with the enable/disable check box as well as with changing IPs and adding 'dummy' disabled first record I managed to workaround the issue.
However, it whould be nice if someone else check it as well.

Please provide EXACT steps to reproduce the issue 100% of the time.
If it is a *sometimes* issue, it is very difficult to debug.

will you plan to add any Xiaomi or GL.iNet support? LEDE now supports Mi Router 3G and GL.iNet B1300 if i'm right. just asking. these are pretty multicore hardwares.
