Could the kmod-usb-net-cdc-ether package be either made available to install via opkg, or be installed as part of firmware. It is needed by quite a number of 4G mobile broadband modems (sometimes referred to as HiLink modems).
Eko has made some images with cdc-ether installed, but these are only 1.6.2 versions.

It will be included in the next major release of 1.9.X.
