WLAN Minimum Connection Rate

My feature request is a fairly simple one:

Frequently when at a local cafe, I will find my laptop or mobile holding on to a 1-bar wifi connection from my nearby apartment and unable to pass any useful traffic.

In the case of my mobile, this is most annoying, as it prevents fallback to cellular and can leave me effectively offline.

The wifi connection rate appears to get as low as 1mbps.

Would it be possible to add a field whereby I could modify a lowest-possible setting? A kind of cut off.

This would reduce the effective wifi range, but when signal is obtained, it's would always be of reasonable quality.

This used to be a semi-common feature a few years ago.

Some Linksys and AirPort Express routers had an option called the "Multicast" rate, which worked by creating a threshold at which all clients must be able to communicate at.

In my case, setting a Multicast rate to something like 11mbps would work perfectly.

I'm sure that other people would get the same problem if they were out in the garden, etc.

There are definitely Android apps that do this.

Upcoming Ubiquiti UniFi firmware will also do this from the AP side.
