L2TP/PPTP proxy server

It would be amazing if Gargoyle could run a L2TP proxy server (or perhaps the lesser secure PPTP). Both are supported out of the box with pretty much all devices, such as Android, unlike OpenVPN.

Was surprised a few years ago when Eric choose OpenVPN

I understand OpenVPN is very secure in comparison?

Most devices can run an OpenVPN client

I also think pptpd service is more convenient.

I personally prefer OpenVPN. PPTP violates the provisions of the NSA. The protocol is classified as very dangerous.

Yeah, I've heard lots of sulfurous stories about PPTP... OpenVPN could be a nice alternative! I've been recommended NordVPN, but I'm yet to try it so I can't tell if this recommendation is justified.
