HTTPS Web Usage

Post by aterentiev »

Hi Folks,

nowadays more and more websites switched over from HTTP to HTTPS. So the Web Usage statistics becomes meaningless.

Sure it is not possible to detect, which URL was get by a host because of the secured line, but we still could have the possibility to say "Host "iPhone" connected to xx.xx.xx.xx:443 (ebay.cоm)".

This Information is already more or less in the connections list, but only as a IP live list and without names relosving. There is absolutely no log entries afterwards.

Is it possible to:
a) add the Information about HTTPS websites/services to the "Web Usage" log
b) add names resolving to the connections list

Please consider both questions independently.
I am looking forward to discuss about these topics.

Thank you!
Alex

This is the latest beta firmware which has HTTPS monitoring.

I'm not interested in implementing name resolution to the connection list at this time. I dont see it adding much value and is probably computationally complex. Thanks

Thank you for your prompt answer!

I'll definitely try this version. Regarding the "name resolving where possible" wishes I think it can be moved to the "Feature requests". Even if it will not be done shortly, it would be generally a nice feature.

Do you know if the stable 1.10.0 downloads have the https monitoring? I have it installed on a TP-Link Archer C7 and I don't see any https monitoring in the web monitor section.

if the stable 1.10.0
I beleive the stable versions do not have this feature. The beta version from ispy works since February perfectly.

Hi Lantis,

is the feature of HTTPS monitoring now implemented into the stable Gargoyle releases or is this only in the version you referenced here last year?

I wanted to clarify this question before upgrading to the newest versions.

Thanks a lot!
