QoS Gaming Setup

Post by Herz3h »

Hello,

So i own an TP-LINK WR841ND v8 where i managed to install Gargoyle even though its not listed as compatible. My network download is about 10500kbits/s (1.2mo/s) and 800kbits/s for upload.

I want QoS cause i need to give priority for TWO games over anything else : Battlefield 4 and League of Legends.

Here are some screenshots for download :

http://prntscr.com/2kr74r

http://prntscr.com/2kr9g9

ACC Enabled (Take a look here : http://prntscr.com/2kr8x1 ) and both Use non-standard ping target and Manually control ping targets disabled

Now here are screenshots for upload :

http://prntscr.com/2kr7s7

http://prntscr.com/2kr7vi

But the problem is that the router won't detect it when i'm playing League of Legends or BF4 and will put the traffic for these two games under the Normal class instead of the Fast one. Here is an example of that when my brother is playing League of Legends on his computer :

http://prntscr.com/2kr8n9

So if anyone could help me please !

Thanks in advance

Fixed the problem. Actually i inverted source and destination port. Should be source port for Download and destination port for Upload.

But i got another PROBLEM ! Even though it is detecting when i play bf4 and LoL and puts it as top priority traffic, i still get high pings when i download or use my bandwidth. Can someone help for this (Screenshots are above).

Thanks!

Replying again to myself :D

Problem fixed. Actually the problem came from ACC, i knew it was reporting wrong ping as my lowest ping to ISP servers i could get was around 55 and here it was reporting something completely wrong (check pic above). So i've set non standard ping target to OpenDns server as suggested elsewhere : 208.67.222.222

And now it works very well. But if possible i would like to know what does this "non standard ping target" mean or at least is there a better value i could put there ? :)

Did you try just setting the ping target to the opendns server and then letting ACC automatically calculate its ping values?

Yes i did only set non standard target, not the "Manually control ping targets".

In operation ACC sends pings to the ping target and measures the time of the response. By default Gargoyle selects the upstream gateway as the ping target. Sometimes the upstream gateway is not the appropriate target to use so using OpenDNS servers or any other server which will respond is used.

The optimum target to use would be a server just on the other side of link prone to congestion. Normally this is the wire from your house to the ISP. To see all the servers between you and OpenDNS you can do a 'traceroute www.opendns.org" from the Gargoyle command line.

You can use any server in this list that will respond to pings. The one the is the closest to the beginning of the list and on the otherside of the congested link would be the optimum. You can experiment if your interested.

What file did you flash to the TL-WR841ND V8 ? I have one and the only file I can find goes to version 7. There is another file for the WR841n - V8. Should I use one of these?

Just use the latest version 1.6.0. It will work on the v8 router. It's even listed. Note there is no difference between the N and ND versions of the 841.

I installed gargoyle_1.6.0-ar71xx-generic-tl-wr841n-v8-squashfs-factory.bin . it seems to be working fine. Thanks.
