ACC jumps to 800ms pings

Post by Xaruza »

Quick question for Eric or iSpy. Something I've noticed is when using the ACC during certain events, it will get a quick jump to 800ms pings. Now this only happens when the ACC is Idle then switches to active. Is there any way to circumvent this huge jump in ping? I'm not sure what the threshold for activating and keeping ACC active is, but say I'm playing a game on my Xbox 360. If another family member loads a webpage or starts a youtube video, the ping will quickly jump to 800ms for about 2 seconds then it will begin "filtering" ping. This used to cause it to drastically drop my link limit in the ACC for a while until it worked its way back up, but I believe that problem was addressed in a recent fix. I'd say the only problem left now is fixing that huge spike in ping times when it becomes active, or maybe just leaving it active entirely when you choose to use ACC.

Personally I do like using ACC and I do see some benefit from it while it's active, it's just the turning on part that makes me consider not using it.

Also, I've tested this on two separate internet providers as well as testing to see if these events cause high ping spikes without ACC active (which they do not)

I've moved your post to the forum for QoS issues where it should go -- it really wasn't relevant to the thread where you posted it.

Also, the person to ask is Paul Bixel (pbix on the forum) -- he wrote the ACC and is more or less in charge of QoS for Gargoyle, while I'm more or less in charge of everything else ;-)

How about posting what version of Gargoyle & qosmon you are using?

What router do you have? What kind of link speeds do you have and what are the normal ping limits used by ACC.

The ACC should be going into MinRTT mode if you are playing online games not active mode.

Recently I have been working on making the ACC better in regards to how it calculates its ping limits and how fast it stabilizes at a new link limit when it switches modes. But there will always remains some transient time when switching modes and to me 2 seconds does not sound that unreasonable.

Netgear WNDR3700v2
TP Link 1043ND v3
TP-Link TL-WDR3600 v1

I viewed the changes and from the lastest gargoyle trunk build, i can say qos-gargoyle is very solid, stable right now. Thanks for updates pbix.
