Issues with web monitoring & recent web searches

Post by Ghost »

Hello,

My Gargoyle LAN-Wireless/bridge is working fine except for two minor issues. The web monitoring feature is only monitoring the wireless side of the network. No web monitoring from the LAN side of this hybrid network   . Also, no historical data for "recent web searches" from either side of the network. Archer C7 V5 running Gargoyle 1.11.0 as AP, attached directly to a Motorola modem ----->>>internet. In addition, I have three W-LAN clients as repeaters. What am I doing wrong? :?: Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :!:

You don't do anything wrong. In this mode, Gargoyle does not monitor because data is passing through and NAT is not performed. Monitoring is done using iptables and is not done, for example, with packet capture.

Also, no historical data for "recent web searches"
This feature does not work anymore due to encryption (HTTPS).

I would add that it may also be due to the implementation of DNS over TLS (DNS over HTTPS).

No, it has nothing to do with that.
Visited sites, yes.
Web searches, no. Just not possible with encrypted packets.

Thanks all for the speedy replies :!: According to Lantis, "Web searches, no. Just not possible with encrypted packets," is it because of my VPN or Google chrome now encrypts all web traffic?

It is not a problem in VPN bridge or any browser (Firefox, Chrome, Edge, ...) - it is a specification of HTTPS protocol: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTPS
