QoS - can router handle it?

Post by thunderdust »

I've been using Gargoyle for well over a year, and absolutely love it. Can't live without it.

I use an older router (DIR-615), which barely has the capacity to even fit Gargoyle (4MB). Nonetheless, it works wonderfully and flawlessly.

My quick question: Can QoS slow down an old router? I mean, is the extra processing power even significant, or negligible?

Thanks!

Yes it absolutely can.
Usually your maximum speed will suffer.
E.g. With qos off you might get 100mbps
With it on you might only get 65

Please be respectful when posting. I do this in my free time on a volunteer basis.

If you don't mind the speed hit, then you can give it a go. To get the best out of it then keep the QOS rules simple as you can. There is some good simple rules on the forum some where search for bufferblote.
