Blocking Viber & Whatsapp

Post by cobra98 »

Is there a way to block viber & whatsapp protokoll in Gargoyle 1.6?

I have a list of ip`s and ports which they access, what would be the best way to block them?

Specially i want to block them only from 20 to 9 in the morning
for a certain ip adress local (kid).

Should this be done by creating a iptable rule in the /etc/firewall.user
File?

Any help is appreciated :)

This can be done in restriction section in Gargoyle GUI.

And how?

Application Protocols don't exist for Whatsapp or Viber.
Transfer Protocol only has tcp or udp avaible but no
syntax like

IP:Port
or IP Range & Ports

Weburl seems only to work for Port 80 Websites

m.facebook.com worked with no problem, i guess as it uses port 443 https protocol

Whatsapp uses syntax like IP, Ports 80, 443

You said you know IP adresses that these applications use, so block them in restriction section using Remote IP option.

do i have to put them single or
is it possible to define a range?

viber has about 26 ip`s and ports,
whatsapp about 20.

Best solution would be if i could edit in a file like
but there is no option for a list import or export yet or?

Also i only want to block ip & port,
but don`t want to activate

Local Port(s):
Transport Protocol:
Application Protocol:
Website URL(s):

Block All

Do i have to set a whitelist rule then too?

I have an active rule for our kid 20-7 no internet connection
and only want to block whatsapp, viber (known ip & ports) for a certain time too (sa - so)

The easiest way to block these apps is by using restriction section. I think you will have to block them one by one. You don't have to make whitelist, just block what you want and that's it.

You could also add iptables to /etc/firewall.user and then use cron to activate them on specific hours.

Being a parent myself with probably the same concerns like you; what's the use of only blocking Viber and What's App? My children would immediatly install Skype after that, and if you've blocked that too... Telegram etc etc....
Only thing IMHO I could do is, block the entire internet access, and hope none of the neighbours is having an open WiFi. At some point my daughter was smart enough to exchange WiFi passwords with a friend next door.

Sign of the time.

But if choose
Remote IP & Remote Port,

all other options say block all.

But i don`t want to block youtube and other sides.

Only some ip`s (range would be better) and according ports.

Also if i put a rule like

Mo - Thursday, Sunday 22:00-07:00
this rule seems to take action also on saturday 00:00-07:00.
If i set it to 21:00-23:59 it works with no problems.

Is there a syntax i can easily add in firewall.user this ip and port blocking?
I guess somehow with iptables

The problem may not be in it. I have encountered similar problems when a daughter came to me and asked for help. Then I updated the software, which was previously installed on her phone. It was programa for spying https://www.hoverwatch.com/free-cell-phone-spy. Useful thing, it helps to spy on everything that happens on the phone man. I advise you to reset to factory settings, if you have a similar software, but you do not know it.
