Wireless repeater (again!)

Post by darrepac »

Hi

I know that the subject of wireless repeater has been asked several times and I read several posts about it. Yet, I guess it is complex subject or I am stupid but I am facing an issue I cannot solve.
My setup:
1 main OpenWRT AP/router connected to internet and with wireless signal serving many clients.
1 Gargoyle wireless repeater dedicated for a part of my home where the mainAP/router signal was not strong enough.

I setup Gargoyle repeater like this:
Configure device as Wireless bridge/repeater
Bridge IP: 192.168.1.200 (must be outside AP subnet)
AP/Gateway IP: 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 (same as AP mask)
And I put a static DHCP lease for this repeater in my main router assigned at 192.168.0.29

If I do this, everything seems ok but the device that connect to this repeater is not reachable. ping result even from the repeater itself is failing.

But if I do the following configuration, it works well (= the device connected to the repeater has internet and local acces):
Configure device as Wireless bridge/repeater
Bridge IP: 192.168.0.200 (must be outside AP subnet)
AP/Gateway IP: 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 (same as AP mask)
And I put a static DHCP lease for this repeater in my main router assigned at 192.168.0.29

It is not normal that it works ok because it is written that the bridge IP should be outside the AP subnet... so I don't understand. :?
