Extend 5ghz signal strength

Post by jwbohrer »

I’ve got a split level home, cable comes into the basement and I’ve got a new WRT1900ACS in a central location down there. However, the 5ghz signal strength upstairs—where we need it for video service—is just on the range of unseeable, causing dropouts and slow service.

I have a C7 (v4, so unable to use it with gargoyle) that I was wondering if it could be somehow used to extend the 5ghz signal strength. I could run a Ethernet cable to it on the main floor, or try to fiddle around with the settings and get it to link to the WRT wireless—which I tried but the 5ghz WDS button was grayed out in the C7 settings so I’m not sure I want to fight the battle of trying to figure out why its not working like documentation says it should—the 2.4ghz button on the same screen meshes perfectly.

In fact, my real question is if I should fight any battle at all, or just buy something Iike this on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-AC750-Ra ... i+extender

My goals are to get the benefits of QOS and scheduling rules from the WRT/Gargoyle setup but extend the 5ghz range. The 2.4ghz range is fine throughought the whole house. I’m not made of money but see the appeal of getting a purpose build extender. I’m no longer nearly as good at computer stuff as I used to be, either.

Please be respectful when posting. I do this in my free time on a volunteer basis.

Didn't know that was possible yet; I'll give it a shot. Thanks!

Seems like it worked, at least I'm not getting any obvious errors. I'll move it into an upstairs location and see if the signal upstairs improves.

Has anyone tested this? I have an Archer C7 V4 that I want to load with Gargoyle. I can't seem to get away from this firmware. There's really nothing else quite as good!

I loaded the 1.11.x version on my Archer C7 v4 and Internet access works okay for wired and wireless clients.

I cannot get the plugins list to refresh. A message keeps coming up saying that 'An Internet Connection is needed...". Please see screenshot.

I need the button for wifi on/off to work and wifi scheduling, which are both plugins. Any ideas Lantis?

Thanks for the build!

Plugins are a problem until an official release.

Not having done it myself but I understand the torrent files have all the required files. You just need to create a link to it?

Form my understanding..............

Hi ispy,
Okay, that makes sense. Can you please point me toward how to use the torrent files? I remember a very large build torrent, but I don't remember how to use/access it.
Thanks!
