Nexx WT3020F WLAN problems

Post by ViBE »

I just bought a Nexx WT3020F router. I installed Gargoyle 1.9.1 and then started to finetune it. When I finished I did some test (bandwidth and ping). After about an hour i noticed connection issues via wifi. The ping was instable and a bunch of packets lost. Speedtest also reflecting on some network issues cause the router cannot reach my connections maximum bandwidth somehow (By the way the modem is fine and the line is works well, I also tested it with my other router). On LAN everthing just fine. I checked the log but did not found any usefull information. Then I gave up figuring out what cause this.

Now I reinstalled Gargoyle and finetuned it step by step. I checked the connection after every step and restarted the device a few times and it was promising. Then it's started to lagging and losing packets again on WLAN... Now I'm here and have no idea what should I do to fix this.

What connection settings are you using for WAN and WIFI?
What speed are you getting and what do you expect to get?

My net bandwidth is 50/15 Mbps and the router can reach it via wifi but just for a short time after the configuration. Then it goes wrong somehow and starts to drop packages and lags and cannot reach the maximum speed. The average is 35/13 Mbps.

Is there a reason you're using zero encryption?
I've actually heard of issues with running open networks as far as performance.

What kind of device are you testing with? Make/Model.
And can you confirm that the access point is actually running at 40MHz width with a spectrum scan or other method? The fact that you set it to 40 doesn't necessarily mean that is what it is doing.

Also what does Gargoyle report the connection speed is on the Status->Connected Hosts page?

I am not at home right now but I will check these. How can I check the actual channel width?

Using another Gargoyle device you could install the spectrum analyser plugin.

Some phone apps will do the same.

inSSIDer is a PC app that will do it also.

Wifi is only operating at 20 not 40MHz so that's cause number 1 (and not one you can fix lawfully)

Was there any of those devices in particular who weren't getting full speed? With that connection speed reported by Gargoyle, half it to calculate a real world throughout figure.
So the 65 and 72mbps devices I wouldn't expect to max out your internet.
