Custom DNS

Post by pmerrill »

One question and one "bug". I think I may have a problem with custom DNS settings. I've set custom DNS setting to SafeDNS (195.46.39.39, 195.46.39.40) but it does not seem to work. No blocking occurs. My clients are indicating that they are using 192.168.1.1 DNS (i.e., the routers). Any ideas?

Is there a way to determine which DNS is actually being hit?

The "bug" is in the forum search. I wonder if someone can relax the constraints somewhat about searching. I tried to do a search for "custom dns" but it would not let me. Too many common works. I tried "custom dns not working" and that was also in error. Seriously, what other string would one use?

I have wondered the same thing

https://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/how-to-fi ... ddress-is/

From my understanding your PC tries to resolve IP from (depending on configuration)

-PC
-Router
-ISP
-Higher Level DNS servers...

The search stops in order when a result is found or timeout occurs?

It would be nice to know which DNS server gave the result.

I should report back...my fault. I have installed Avast Internet Security and unknown to me it has a secure DNS, so everything was re-directed. Once I turned it off, all works ok.

Doh!
