on this unit i'm working with version 1.6.2 without special issues, except rarely wireless drop after 22 days or something, it's not persistent but it occurs.
for your second question - i didn't try to do this so i don't know the answer.

it's v2.1 if you look under the router unit you see the hardware and serial number of your unit.

tp-link released version 3 of this router, it seems that the hardware is the same like v2.1 but supports ipv6, if i flashed firmware that compatible to version 2.1, i will brick my unit or not?

i search the web and find that i need to setup this in CLI commands and not gui.
