Creating an Autonomous System for Fun and Profit

An interesting tale of what it takes to register an ASN and BGP Peering to become an ISP or Hosting Provider. Also talks about the type of hardware required to run full tables of IPv4 and IPv6 address space.

Re: Default QoS Rules Contest

I agree, thanks Knopix for the inspiration. It's working better than any previous solution.

I had to set the IP on the game rule though otherwise use of Facebook Messenger and Torrents seems to add lag when sending UDP for audio/video messenging.

Re: Default QoS Rules Contest

Not as well as I'd like, I'm still looking for something that is better able to prioritise gaming traffic.

Re: Default QoS Rules Contest

So in regards to gaming, has anyone come to a conclusion as to what setup is best? When your connection is being bombarded from a few other members in the house especially hehe. I'm currently using the new default setup as per OP with an additional QoS channel that has a rule to forward traffic on ...

Re: Quotas editing bug on smartphone.

Gargoyle doesn't handle multiple session instances of the Configuration pages open in separate tabs or systems. This just means you have to micromanage it at this stage to ensure you only have one instance logged in at all times until some parity checks are implemented.

Re: Quotas editing bug on smartphone.

The buttons should be there. Because the edit screen is quite wide for the fields in the table on a Mobile Phone you may need to scroll to the right to be able to see the button. Test another mobile browser like Chrome also and ensure Firefox is updated to the latest version. By testing in both you ...

Re: Help me about video streaming

You could manage it with a separate QoS channel dedicated to streaming. I used to do this with 2 Chromecast and a Boxee Box by limiting the max bandwidth to 2500 kbps with would force the stream sent to be 720p. You would need to specify IP ranges in CIDR format for the common sites such as YouTube ...

Re: WNDR3700V4 on 1.8.1 not saving Basic Connection settings

Also note that Chrome Autofill tends to replace the ISP connection password and wireless password text fields as the password used on the router login. Whether this is a Gargoyle bug or something in Chrome causing it to treat the field as the same I'm unsure but each time I modify something on the c...

Re: [Solved] Trouble Setting Up OpenVPN with a Provider...

Thanks Dodgy Bob, I had noticed that sometimes PIA fails to reconnect after a router reboot. I might have to do some additional testing based on your work with tls-auth. Hopefully the discoveries we are making allow some background changes for Gargoyle that will allow it to be completely done from t...

Re: Default QoS Rules Contest

I think the Bufferbloat (<128 Priority/>128 Normal) 2 class style gives the best default choice for the average user. It keeps the Gargoyle UI responsive and makes Web pages super responsive. I found myself in the unique position of getting upgraded to VDSL (NBN FTTN) which meant about a 5x speed in...
