Re: Options for remote access to Gargoyle

I bought another router to test this. It seems to work well.

Has anyone done any testing of relative performance of the different block encryption options? namely blowfish and AES in 128 and 256 bit

Re: problems with the MIPS randomness and OpenVPN impact

http://www.mips.com/media/files/MD00565-2B-MIPS32-QRC-01.01.pdf includes a code snipit for reading the cycle count from a MIPS processor. Not sure whether it works on the Atheros CPUs... unsigned mips_cycle_counter_read() { unsigned cc; asm volatile("mfc0 %0, $9" : "=r" (cc)); re...

problems with the MIPS randomness and OpenVPN impact

Looks like there may be some issues with entropy harvesting in MIPS Linux which forms the basis of a lot of distributions, such as OpenWRT and Gargoyle. http://www.heise.de/security/meldung/MIPS-Router-mit-Entropieproblemen-1953097.html (In German) is a good overview. It points to https://lists.open...

Can I select only one of two antennas?

I have a TP Link 3600. It has two antennas. I have attached a high gain directional antenna to one side, but it does not seem to make a difference.

Is it possible to select the use of only one antenna, and have the other disabled? I assume this would have to be done at the command line.

Security mitigations in OpenWRT

I am curious if OpenWRT is built using things like ASLR or DEP/NX as a protection against network attacks. As it starts to run more applications, such as OpenVPN and Tor, this could be helpful in reducing the likelihood of exploitable vulnerabilities. Does it have full memory protection between the ...

Options for remote access to Gargoyle

I plan to put a router in a high bandwidth remote location, configured to use OpenVPN. I would like to be able to securely remotely administration of the router. If I enable SSH access to the router, can I use that to tunnel in to the Gargoyle GUI, or am I forced to use the command line? Or can I fu...

Re: TP-WDR4300 Observation

If you have restarted your router and the problem remains, then it is very unlikely to be a memory leak.

Router with lots of ROM?

I like the TP Link 3600 because they are cheap and have 128 MB of RAM. But I would like to try out different plugins (specifically OpenVPN and Tor) and it looks like both will not fit in the ROM. Which other routers have 16MB of ROM, but are ideally still inexpensive? I have had really good luck wit...

Re: command line wireless config?

Sorry to be ignorant, but I thought that all WiFi routers have the same RF power restrictions, at least within one country. Which other routers have higher power output? Any which have ability to drive just one (directional) antenna? How much difference would this make compared to the two routers (w...

command line wireless config?

How can I see (and possibly alter) low level wireless config parameters? Are there any examples somewhere?

I was specifically wanting to check the wireless ACK timing, to see if it is suitable for a 1km point to point link.

I will be using 2 TP-Link 741s
