from the Connection > Basic > Use Custom MAC Address, the check box will not remain checked.

Check the Custom MAC Address box (which contains a valid mac address)
Click the Save Changes button
scroll back and the box is un-checked

I use teamviewer everyday to machines on the WAN, but not to a machine on my LAN, and have not had it crash the router.
