Looks like I'm going to attempt to install OpenWRT on it and then put Gargoyle on top. First timer as my first Gargoyle router was pre-installed so this is scary at the moment.

Shorten the filename. This router doesn't like a long filename.
Make sure it is the right version for your router.
I'd love to put it on my v4 WNDR3800 but no support yet.

Just reporting in that my DIR-835 router also bricked itself. It occured on the 20th March 2015. Running firmware 1.7.1 Modem stopped attempting to CHAP Authenticate in Bridged Mode.
