One thing I would suggest to make sure you do, is format the target drive before you do anything else, and make sure you re-size the partition after installing the "img" file.

a DIY x86-64 router is a lot easier then it looks.
after messing around with WRT1900's and WRT3200 - I took the "scared" plunge to an old PC and I am in disbelief at the stability and speed that x86 running Gargoyle provides. I will never waste mony on a consumer router again.

Make sure you are plugged into the right port for LAN, until you get used to which port is assigned WAN and LAN, I found even Openwrt was a bit awkward. Eventually, i just took my windows laptop and plugged it into a port waited a bit, then typed "ipconfig" at the windows command prompt. I...

Find a PC 4-5 years old, and put Gargoyle or Openwrt on it, you won't believe how fast it is. Any Small form factor PC will work and you can hide them anywhere. I picked one up off Kijiji for $80. put a $35 ssd in it, had the extra Ethernet/port card lying around. You won't waste money on a consumer...
