Have a look at the threads below regarding the 3700 and 3800. People have had problems with the router not obtaining a WAN IP from the ISP's modem with recent builds. I'm still curious about which build others have successfully used. Checking wich port is assigned to WAN can be done by trying to plug the modem into each LAN port and the WAN port. There are people on the forum running Gargoyle on the 3700 and 3800 without problems. Have you checked to see what builds they're using? There's still a small list of simple troubleshooting things to try if the above doesn't work, such as patch vs crossover cable, or checking if WAN port assignment ...

That device only does 2.4 - Google is your friend. You may not need a new adapter - throughput may not be any better on 5Ghz, depending on how many obstacles and how much interference is present. Test throughput and stability of the connection before considering a new adapter. If you get a new one, ...
