Re: Namecheap Dynamic DNS Force Update Fails
Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately I can not upgrade beyond version 1.12, I tried that a while ago and it caused all sorts of problems (though I don't remember what exactly).

Namecheap Dynamic DNS Force Update Fails
Gargoyle 1.12.0 running on TP-Link Archer C7 v2 I just wasted half a day trying to figure out why certain things in my network were completely failing until I finally realised my ISP had given me a new IP address. It's semi-static, so it can change but in practice it's always the been the same, unti...

Re: QoS cuts bandwidth in half
I tried upgrading to 1.14 a while ago but that lead to problems, I don't remember what they were but had to revert back to 1.12 so will stay at that, at least for a while. Most important for me is knowing the loss is expected. I wish there was an easy way to have an IP specific 'hosts' file on the r...

Sorry, I probably should have mentioned that in my OP.

QoS cuts bandwidth in half
For reasons that shall be left unexplained I want to severely limit the (download) bandwith to one particular (static) IP address in my network. I did this by adding a new service class ('slooow') with a Max BW of 800 kpbs and then add a classification rule where if the destination IP is that static...

Conditional 2nd DNS server
Hi, I run pihole as my DNS server. In the router (running Gargoyle 1.12.0) I have the IP of my pihole server as first DNS. Because occasionally pihole crashes (once a month, and always when I'm not around to fix things) I have 1.1.1.1 (CloudFlare) listed in the router as my 2nd DNS server. This 2nd ...

Re: dyndns hacked?
I removed the 0.0.0.0 line from hosts and added local=/checkmyip.com/ to dnsmasq.conf. A ping to checkmyip.com results in a 'could not find host' error, so that sounds good. I'll see if the DNS error will still occur, hopefully not.
Thanks for your help Roman!

Re: dyndns hacked?
I have added
0.0.0.0 checkmyip.com
to the hosts file as suggested, and rebooted the router but now the DNS entry gets updated (when it randomly selects checkmyip.com) to 127.0.0.1. So that still causes my services to halt.
Any idea to fix this?

Re: dyndns hacked?
Ah, that explains everything! Every time Gargoyle checked its IP address and randomly chose to use checkmyip.com it got the false IP address and updated the DNS records, the next check could have used another detector and correct itself again. I could not understand the random behaviour of when my s...

Re: dyndns hacked?
Thanks for that Roman. Can you confirm that Gargoyle uses checkmyip.com and that that is the reason Gargoyle thinks it needs to update the DNS record with a (false) IP address?
If I do the 0.0.0.0 checkmyip.com workaround, will the router have a backup service to check the ip with?
Thanks!
