I have ZERO programing knowledge, and dont even know how to load ssh, surely there is an easier way for average joe to switch to gargoyle..?

dd-wrt firmware has taken away all my tx power and signal strength and switching to openwrt/gargoyle is the only way to get it back.

The instructions above assume that poeple know how to do certian programing things, can someone please make a n00b proof guide with every step and code to copy paste please? Or an auto script even? a video even?

Thanks

Awesome cheers mate. I didnt expect a reply so fast so i took a step into the unknown and downloaded putty an copied SirReal's code and it got me to openwrt. I then put on gargoyle_1.3.16-ar71xx-wzr-hp-g300nh-squashfs-sysupgrade

Trouble im having now is "password" is not working as the password, so cant log into gargoyle. I have also tried my old dd-wrt password and admin, but no luck.

Have powered the router on and off, RESET, 30/30/30 RESET too. Suggestions?

Thanks

PS: do you know the trick to make Tx power 27-30 in gargoyle. Something to do with CLI i read on another site, but there were no instructions. Assuming i can work out how to log in first lol

Try doing that step.

I've had that issue occasionally.

Telnet into the router with Putty (google and download)

It will either let you right in or ask for user.

User is root, and you should get a prompt.

type "passwd" without quotes

type in the password you want and hit enter, then re-enter
for verification.

Once thats done, type in exit and try to login via Gui with
the password you just setup.
