I'm having a problem restoring backups. I just updated to 1.1.6 and when I tried restoring the backup it corrupted the installation with the DMZ light staying on and random reboots and no internet access. I tried earlier versions and earlier backups all with the same result. Its OK if I don't try to restore a backup but that means reentering all my settings.

Re: Can't restore backup
I would try and do this:
1) Re-load 1.1.6 fresh, and re-configure all settings from scratch
2) Backup that data to a file
3) compare that file to a prior settings file.
I had 1.1.6 loaded, but it was acting weird - time settings were off.
So I backed up 1.1.6 settings to a file
Re-Flashed 1.0.15 fresh, and re-configured from scratch
Backed up those settings to a file.
Between 1.0.15 and 1.1.6 - there is a 14K difference in settings.
1.0.15 backup.tar was 54,784 bytes
1.1.6 backup.tar was 77,312 bytes
I'm using 7-Zip to open the .gz files and check file sizes.
Because of all the changes Eric is making, sometimes it is better
to start from scratch, unless you really need bandwidth data.

Re: Can't restore backup
The difference in size of the backups is due to the increased amount of data you naturally get when you automatically monitor traffic from all IPs on the network. It's not that the format/configuration is changed, it's that there's more data there because more is being collected.
I'll see if I can find some time to figure out what is going on with old backups... but this is a slightly lower priority than known bugs in current releases.
What version where you restoring from?

Had the same prob again going from 1.1.6 to 1.1.7. The backup seems to be corrupting the installation somehow. Could it be a memory problem?

Re: Can't restore backup
Have you checked that the router has a valid time and date before doing the restore config settings?
I found that I had to first enter my PPPoE settings (so the router could get time and date from the internet) and only then restore my config. Skipping the first step caused all usage data to be lost and, on some occasions, to corrupt the installation.
