1.4.7 Very Slow to Start on DIR-300 Rev A

Post by dkr »

Hi everyone,

Just successfully installed Gargoyle 1.4.7 coming from DD-WRT following the guide on openwrt, and installation took me 3 tries and then realizing it takes like 30min or so.

So now im running Gargoyle(hoooray) since I'm desperate for a decent QOS for dir-300 but I find Gargoyle painfully slow to start; just assigning an IP to my computer takes around 5-10min, so does starting the wifi.

Also I can't see my WiFi LED lighting up since this install, even when all LED light up on boot.

Is it because of the very limited memory/cpu on DIR-300? Do I have any chance of running Gargoyle nicely?

Thanks,

dkr

Im really happy with Gargoyle except it really takes serious booting time and cpu usage goes quite high with just wireless settings touched.

Havent gotten the time to setup QOS yet but I think that will consume even more resource.

Also saving the settings takes a few minutes too.. :(

and HT20 is atheros abg not working

config 'wifi-device' 'wifi0'
option 'type' 'atheros'
'option 'country' '392'
option 'channel' '11'
option 'htmode' 'HT20' default

Ok, that's sad. thanks for confirming. Hope any owner of DIR-300 a1 with same firmware can confirm this? I'll give it a spin for another week before trying 1.2.5.

After checking out much of its features, Gargoyle is what I need so I feel really bad about the boot time.

Coming from DDWRT which is a lot more "bloated", how come it starts a hundred times faster than Gargoyle/OpenWRT? & looking at CPU load, DDWRT seems lighter. Is it because of all the fancy monitoring features? I just need the QOS, hope this one can come with micro/lite version. ;)
config 'wifi-device' 'wifi0'

'option 'country' '392'
option 'channel' '11'
option 'htmode' 'HT20' default
Also I don't have options for country or HT20 on my end? Do I need to set that via SSH?

Thanks,

I have two of these devices and I have accepted that they are old and slow.

182mhz CPU
8meg RAM
4 Meg Flash

compare that with an RSpro

680 Mhz
128meg RAM
16mb Flash

But how come DD-WRT boots much much faster?
So that means lower versions won't help with the boot times? :(
