Hi all,
I'm new to the forums and would like some advice.
I'm looking for a wireless router for my home, which would allow me to limit the bandwidth of users connecting to it. Having googled a bit, I learned about Gargoyle, which seems to fit the bill (if that's not the case, let me know:p )
However, I would like to have some recommendations concerning the router to buy? I do have an old wrt54gl with dd-wrt lying around but I'd like something newer and reliable.

1) See what routers you can buy locally
2) Google search those routers for Wi-Fi range/usage to see if that
meets what your usage would be (if you are heavy Wi-Fi user)
3) Search OpenWRT to see if those routers are supported in the
Attitude Adjustment branch
4) If the router is supported by Attitude Adjustment, they should be
supported by Gargoyle 1.5.10 and work
5) If the router is supported in TRUNK releases, look for another
router as it could be a while before it gets support in Gargoyle
TP-Link 1043ND's seem to work
Netgear WNDR3700 v1 / WNDR3800 v1 seems to work
Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH v1 works well
Newer Broadcom units do not work with Gargoyle yet
If you want to run Gargoyle - look for Atheros based chipsets

I use 1.5.10 on a WNDR3700V2. It works perfectly. I've configured the sentient feces out of it and it never reboots or forces me to reboot it unless there's a power outage longer than my UPS can cover for a couple of months. I haven't tested the usb 2.0 NAS portion of it because I have a big honkin' server for all of my serving needs. But bandwidth limiting by IP, static IPs on the LAN, setting custom DNS servers, wifi broadcast scheduling, 2.4/5.0 ghz wifi, doesn't slow down my 130mbps internet connection, and the gigabit LAN works across 2 desktops, 1 server, and one PS3 with unencumbered speed and reliability. I have yet to find a fault with Gargoyle 1.5.10 on this hardware in my somewhat extensive usage of it. It's definitely miles better than the stock netgear firmware lol.
