Version 1.4.2

Post by Eric »

This release contains some fixes for ar71xx routers such as the 1043ND with which some people had reported problems in the 1.4 releases. Please let me know if you are still experiencing these problems in 1.4.2.

Also, you may see your reported memory usage drop in this release. This is a matter of how memory usage is being reported, not what is actually used. The output now excludes certain types of memory that can be easily freed by the operating system if necessary, and therefore better reflects what is actually being used.

UPDATE, September 17th, 2011: There was an issue with the build configuration of some of the ar71xx in 1.4.2. Since this was only a build-configuration issue and not a change in the Gargoyle code, I have updated the 1.4.2 ar71xx images with the proper build configuration. The MD5 sums for these images have now changed, and this is why. Only ar71xx images were affected. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

New in 1.4.2:
  • Fixes problem with saving QoS settings
  • Newer OpenWrt Backfire revision, with new fixes for ath9k/ar71xx, broadcom
  • Memory display in Status/Overview no longer includes buffers/cache, making output better reflect what is truly used (Thanks to Piotr Karbowski)
  • Various minor performance improvements (Again, thanks to Piotr Karbowski)
  • Fixes bug that can cause upgrade screen not to refresh when upgrade complete
  • Fixes security issue with backing up settings that allowed users on local network to access (but not change) router settings and bandwidth data without logging in

Hadn't seen the issues others reported since I don't use QOS, but since this update mentioned my router specifically (WR1043ND) I had to install it. Upgrade went fine, settings restored from backup and everything seems to work great. All I'm using are quotas, wireless, and nearly obsessive compulsive use of the bandwidth reporting tools, all of which seem fine and maybe even a bit more responsive in this version. Thank you for a good and painless update. :)

Changing the DHCP range and saving it works again!

Very snappy interface - changing between the different menus
seems a LOT faster than prior firmware versions.

Yes gone here too, the page is still accessible and still works at /themes.sh but the menu item is gone, maybe a typo in code or a merge of an old file?

i am use 1043nd test is ok :D :D :D

But the 741nd not save any settings, as long as a reboot back to the beginning of the case! :o :o :o

I thought it was my error, but I manually back tplink F / W update again, the situation is still the same. Then changed to 1.4.0 on all normal!

Therefore, children should still 1.4.2 still some problems!

First of all thanks a lot for this excellent firmware Eric :)
Installed on TP-Link TL-WR941ND ver 2.2

problems:
ver 1.4.2
configuration is not saved after a router restart and settings goes to default.
Opendns DDNS update not working.

Reverted back to ver 1.4.0 and working fine now.

Flaws of ver 1.4.0

Configuration is saved fine after restart but restart command execution takes a long time almost five minutes.

In ver 1.4.2 restart command acts faster but configuration is lost.

opendns ddns not working.

please solve this issue.

Is there some instructions about upgrading witing releases? Say from 1.4.1 to 1.4.2.

Can a backup and restore of settings be done, or should the settings all be entered from scratch again>?

Make a backup of the setting... make a firmware upgrade with the sysupgrade file for your router... make a restore of your setting.
Router: TL-WR1043ND - Gargoyle 1.5.4
AP: TL-WR1043ND - Gargoyle 1.5.4
